Environment Day is an annual event celebrated by MWSC to celebrate its environmental initiatives and create awareness on environmental issues.
As part of this year’s celebration, a very important recycling initiative, ‘Smart Bin’ was launched. Smart Bin is the first ever reverse vending machine made for recycling in the Maldives. This is a joint effort of MWSC and Island Beverages Maldives (IBM).
The newly launched Smart Bin provide an automated method for collecting, sorting and handling of used plastic bottles for recycling purposes. Smart Bin has the capacity to collect up to 538 bottles per day.
Addressing at the ceremony held today, the Chief Guest of the event, Minister of Environment and Energy Mr. Thoriq Ibrahim commended MWSC on its recycling and producer responsibility initiatives and expressed his hope for other organizations to follow in these steps.
The Smart Bin launched by MWSC is a major CSR initiative of MWSC to promote and engage the community in recycling practices.
Smart Bin rewards are redeemable via MWSC Mobile App. The Smart Bin is located in IGMH Building at the Bodu Thakurufaanu Magu and Thaajuddeen Hingun junction.
