The Senior Management and staff of MWSC today planted trees at Gulhifalhu in celebration of the World Environment Day, which falls on the 5th of June annually.
The objective of the event was to make MWSC’s contribution to the theme of the year "Forests: Nature at your service".
The tree planting event was held in collaboration with Global Projects Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (GPD), under their Green Initiative to make the newly developing land, Gulhifalhu, a greener and environmentally-friendly place. Gulhifalhu being a newly developing area and a bare land with trees being of utmost importance for its further development, made the event an important initiative and a great chance to play a role in contributing to the environment.
The event was inaugurated by the Managing Director of MWSC Mr. Mohamed Ahmed Didi and GPD’s Managing Director Mr. Raj Manivannan, by planting a tree at one of the most prominent sites of the island, the Harrow Road.
Following the inauguration, trees were planted all over the island, including 60 plants which were planted at the MWSC site at Gulhifalhu.
In addition, trees were donated to the Gulhifalhu nursery for the purpose of developing the plants in a safe and secure area.
At today’s event, the MD of GPD, Mr. Manivannan, thanked MWSC for its contribution, acclaiming them for their role in making the island greener.
